Please can you help

I just installed Windows 8

All my pictures on my external hard drive e.g. picture.jpg have changed to folders with same name. The icon in front of the jpeg name has changed from a picture to a folder. When I try to open picture, I get the 'jpeg is not accessible. The directory name is invalid.'

Hi,

sounds strange. 

Try to run chkdsk c: /f (or chkdsk diskwithpictures: /f )

Chkdsk checks your disk for logical errors and tries to fix them (/f). If you want just to check your hard drive, run chkdsk c: (or any other drive)
