See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922379/en-auTo resolve this issue, follow these steps:Click Start, click Run, type C:\Windows\Inf, and then clickOK.Note Substitute "C" with the drive letter of the local hard disk.Right-click the dfrg.inf file, and then click Install. When choosing to Install the dfrg.inf file, it might appear that "nothing happens", but something happened (it is apparently just not exciting enough to report).Running the XP Disk Degragmenter you might see messages similar to these:Windows cannot connect to the Disk Defragmenter engineMMC could not create the snap-inNavigation to the webpage was cancelledDo you now or have you ever had a third party disk defragmentation tool (like Diskeeper, Auslogics, etc.) installed and then uninstalled it? Uninstalling them will sometimes not put back the original XP defragmenter settings so you have to put them back manually by reregisteing a couple of DLL files. It is fine to register the DLLs even if they are already registered. To do that, click Start, Run and in the box enter each of the following lines one at a time and then click the OK button to execute each of the commands one at a time:regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dllregsvr32 dfrgui.dllWhen the process completes for each DLL you register, you should see a message similar to the following:DllRegisterServer in <DLL Name>... Succeeded. After reregisering both of the DLLs, test your XP Disk Defragmenter.Don't guess what the problem might be - figure it out and fix it.
