The Remote device or resource won't accept the connection
This message pops up when I try to open internet explorer or google chrome. I have Norton antivirus. I have tried changing my settings on IE and Norton and all other settings I could think of. I have tried various different wireless networks and get the same error message. What can I do to get on the internet?

Hi,

For this issue . please try the following solutions:

  1. Please open IE>Tools> Internet Options>Connections>LAN settings>Uncheck the option Automatically detect settings and click Apply & OK, re-open IE.
  2. Temporarily turn off firewall and anti-virus.
  3. Reset IE
  4. If doesnt work, please test IE with another user account, if you dont have, please just create one for a test.

Control Panel>User accounts>Manage user account>add a new account.

What is the result, please free contact us.

Regards,

Yolanda

I am getting the same error. I have Windows 8.1 running the latest Internet Explorer. My first error is "The proxy server is not responding" when I click Fix Connection Problems, I receive the error code "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection"

I have tried the following
Resetting the Modem, uninstalling my antivirus, checking the msc.services, running ipconfig/renew,
. I have also tried changing my Internet Explorer LAN settings by unchecking the box that says "automatically detect settings"

When I try and disable the Automaticly detect settings it will not save that way. I cannot disable automatic settings or turn off the proxy settings.

It is worth noting that all my other portable devices connect to the Wi-Fi with no problems and I am only having this issue with Internet Explorer, all other browsers work just fine.

Wrong Yolanda, and this isn't even my job.

Your first question, instead of your horrible response, should have been to ask them if they are experiencing this issues on any other web-browser. I am unsure as to why you would even give them this copy and paste information since this has already been copies and pasted multiple times on this forum. With as many as 12 pages telling other "helpers" just like you that this is not how to fix this issue.

I am certified by Cisco, Comptia, and Microsoft for a lot more than your MSFT CSG.

This particular issue is caused by Spyware and malware and doing this the way you outlined will only temporarily solve their issue.

This is the real fix.

Download hitman 64 bit or 32 bit.

You will notice it will flag your proxy server. This is because your network is compromised. You will notice Hitman will delete this "proxy" that is in place.

It has nothing to do with IE or any firewall.

After this download Spybot and Malwarebytes and AVG.

Run all of these and restart your computer.

Problem solved.

This is the real fix.

Download hitman 64 bit or 32 bit from another pc and toss it on a flash drive.

You will notice it will flag your proxy server. This is because your network is compromised and IE is infected. You will notice Hitman will delete this "proxy" that is in place. IS has the weakest browser security and is easily infected.

It has nothing to do with IE or any firewall but IE just happened to be the browser that was affected. It is just a virus.

After this download Spybot and Malwarebytes and AVG.

Run all of these and restart your computer.

Problem solved.

I'm sure this would work great if I could connect to the internet.  Any other suggestions.  Malwarebytes is already installed but wont open.

You'll have to download Hitman from another computer onto a USB drive and run it from there on the affected computer. I just did this and the Irish guy is right on the money.

I know Yolanda is so wrong, but it is an easy way to fix the problem without downloading any additional program. I had the same problem on my computer and this is what I did Go to IE under tools> internet options > advanced >reset. And that was it. It work for me and I didn't have to download any programs or like Yolanda said temporarily turn off my firewall or anti virus. That by the way who wants to do such a crazy thing.....

Yep. This solved it for me, too (IE reset). The problem surfaced for me when Win8.1 did an auto update overnight.

I have this issue, but it's effecting all of my programs that require a network connection, not just an individual browser.  I am connected to the modem just fine on all other devices.

Me too!! The computer did a huge update (took almost 1 hour to complete) and after the update it wouldn't connect to any internet connection - whether wifi or ethernet cord! :/ So frustrating!
But so thankful to have found this thread!!

For those so-called "experts" claiming you must download Hitman; that's a bunch of bull.  Just do what others here did

go to control panel --> network & internet --> network & sharing center --> internet options --> connections tab --> LAN settings --> untick "use a proxy server for your LAN --> apply --> ok

That fixes the issue

Hey Matthewwww, I met the same problem as you, but you can easily fix it by flushing the dns cache

If you have no idea what to do, here is the link: http://www.wikihow.com/Flush-DNS
