The MRU and pinned items disappeared from the Word icon that's pinned to Windows 7 taskbar
This problem is hard to describe. I have the Word (2007) icon pinned to the taskbar in Windows 7, and previously when I right clicked it, I could see the list of recently used docs, and I had a few docs permanently pinned to the list. Worked great! However, recently the MRU list and the pinned items disappeared from the Word icon list. Now, when I right click the Word icon on the taskbar, I only see the following items listed: Microsoft Office Word 2007 Unpin this program from taskbar Close window. There's nothing else listed! This problem only seems to affect Word. Other programs (such as other Office apps like Excel) are not affected. I ran an Office repair but no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks!Darryl Gittins

Hi,If the issue occurs recently, a system restore might be of help. Is there any change before the issue occurs?By default, most of the jump list history is saved under %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations as *.automaticDestinations-ms files. For Example, adecfb853d77462a.automaticDestinations-ms is for WORD. The Item that pinned to taskbar was saved under %APPDATA%\\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBarClick Start, copy "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations" (without quotation marks) to the search command line and Enter. In the open window, find the adecfb853d77462a.automaticDestinations-ms, what is the "Date modified". Right click on it and choose "restore previous versions" if there is any. Close the window and check the result. If still no go, simply delete it. Meanwhile, delete all the files under the folder TaskBar too. Close the window and recheck.

AWESOME! I'm so glad to have this fixed!!I tried restoring a previous version - there were two, but both were very recent, so that didn't work. Then I deleted the adecfb853d77462a file and that fixed it! **Note to anyone upgrading to Office 2010 searching for help with this "problem". I love this feature and when they disapeared after my recent upgrade to test 2010 it annoyed me too because I had grown to rely on it - until I realized that upgrading cleared the jump list history and if I opened my pinned items they once again show up in the jump list.**

All of the solutions I see out there refer to finding a corrupt file in the %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations folder, only I don't have one. There is no folder named AutomaticDestinations. I have a recent folder under C:\Users\paulj\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent\, but it has no files larger than 3 kb. I have a Recent Items "object" under C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\, with nothing in it. I have another Recent Items "object" under C:\Users\paulj\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Printer Shortcuts\, which is populated with shortcuts to recent files, nothing bigger than 14kb there. I've cleared my recent lists, pinned and unpinned. Nothing. The Jump List for Word is gone. The recent files are still there if I open Word, and all is well with the rest of office 2007, just no jump list for word.

Thank you so much! I had the same problem so I googled, "my pinned microsoft word items went away" and this came up! I did not do any updated to Microsoft Word that I could remember. I did do a Windows Update recently so that could have done it. I have Microsoft Word 2003. My file was a8c43ef36da523b1.automaticDestinations-ms not the same as you explained. I went by date modified to find it right after I added a new pinned item. I opened up the file before restoring it and my items were in there, but not showing up on the Jump List. I assume that the file got corrupted. After I restored a previous version, the file size got slightly smaller by a few kilobytes.

It happened again today. Why does it keep happening? It was so bad that I only had 3 files in there. I had to restore the entire folder!
