Hi, would you please check below items to narrow down the issues?

1. Are errors and warnings showed up in Event logs?

2. Does the firewall block ports or software between Lync and Backend SQL server?

3. All settings are set correct in Topology builder? The Topology builder will show red-cross if it's not configured correctly.

4. It never works or stops working just now? Any changes had been made before its stop working?

5. Please try to reboot FE server. (Make sure DC and Backend database server are working well before rebooting FE server.)

< Windows Could not start the Lync Server Front-End on ( Server Name ) . For more information, review the Event log. If this is non-Micrasoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code - 1007520161. >

No I don't see any Lync log under Applications and Services

October 19th, 2010 1:45pm

Okay, if you can, can you look at the Lync event log.

Under event viewer you should see:

Windows Logs

Applications and Services Logs

expand Applications and Services Logs

and select Lync Server

Usually these logs give more information specific to the Lync services that are failing

Attempt to start your front end service and refresh that log. That error you posted is a result of the front end service being down, but there should be something when you try to start the front end service that throws an error.

Most of the time when services won't start it is certificate related. Can you confirm you have a valid certificate installed and assigned to the services that matches the FQDN of your pool/server name?

Thanks.

October 19th, 2010 2:25pm

I check all the Cert they all looks good

onther option I can try is rebuild server and try again

let you know soon

Correct, errors showed up that Lync services haven't been installed properly, rebuild server should be the best solution.

have had the exact same problem.  Fresh Install.  Front-End service won't stay started.  Uninstalling and reinstalling is not an acceptable solution.   I know my certificates are installed properly.

December 5th, 2011 8:05pm

I have this exact same issue, installing a brand new enterprise front end.  We have uninstalled & reinstalled and still get the same errors (different event ids) as referenced above, this is for lync server 2010

We worked with Microsoft and eventually had to reimage the box then the installation was fine and everything worked as expected...

We had a similar issue. The installation account did not have sufficient permission in the child domain to activate the server / services. Also saw Global Activation failures in the logs when we ran "enable-cstopology".

Ended up adding the installation account to the domain admins group of the child domain. Activation succeeded and we removed the account again.

Hi JVantonder,

Nices tip, i used "Enable-CsTopology" and discover issue with objects in AD.

Error: An error occurred: "Microsoft.Rtc.Management.Deployment.ActiveDirectoryException" "Found multiple objects with identity "Server.domain.com,MediationServer" in Active Directory."   xx/xx20xx xx:xx:xx PM   Error

Finally i used the next steps for finf and delete the duplicate objects.

1) Run Test-CsTopology -Report C:\temp\Resulttopology.html 2) Prepare the appropriate AD for a TXT file:Ldifde -f c:\temp\ADObjects.txt -s DC_FQDN -d "CN=RTC Service, CN=Services, CN=Configuration, DC=server, DC=domain, DC=com"

3) Find the duplicate entries in txt file. Then delete them from AD using ADSIE Edit

Regards!
