The Local Device Name is Already in Use
I have two network drives setup between my Windows XP Pro and my Windows XP Home. I have also setup a shared printer to my XP Pro. When the ethernet adapter (connected to router) is connected to the XP Pro, the files open perfectly on the other XP Home. My wireless adapter provides my internet and email perfectly without the ethernet. When I disconnect the ethernet, the network drive cannot be connected and appears with an error message, "An error occurred while reconnecting (drive letter) to\\server\folder Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored". I checked My Computer, and there is absolutely no drive letter the same as the one I'm trying to use. I can't change the letter of the network drive or otherwise my 100 and something hyperlinks won't work. I down't want to have to connect the ethernet adapter when I want to file share. Thanks in advance,Cooper Beutel1 person got this answerI do too

@JackAre you aware of the HTML garbage that sometimes appears on your posts? I can't tell if it's from quoting or just a glitch from using the bridge.I usually try to clean it up when I see it, but I'll leave this one so you can have a look.Cody C Microsoft Answers Support Engineer Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

Jack,I have tried following the article that you've given me a link to, yet the problem seems to be yet more serious. I've upgraded the XP Home Edition to Professional to see if this will work. It didn't. I just tried your article and it still doesn't work. Both computers have the same identical users and passwords. Each computer has a unique name - COOPER-PC and BEAU-PC. I'm not to sure why the problem has now become so serious. I am an experienced XP user, but anybody who replies, can you please post in easy to understand english? Thanks Anyway,Cooper Beutel
