The Black Screen of Death - BUT - it appears limited to U-tube
Today was my first encounter with the Black Screen of Death. But it only rears its ugly head when I try to play a U tube video. Anyone else wxperiencing this quirk ? OR is it related to February maintenance listed above ? Have a good one !

Never heard of black screen of death, blue screen yes. Are you trying to play U tube in full view? The feb maintenance listed above has nothing to do with U tube, its a forum maintenance issue and nothing to do with black screen issues as there are no U tube stuff here. U tube I think did have an issue recently but think it has been resolved now (couldn't tell you for sure as I can't test it from work - firewall blocks utube). I know my xp machine doesn't have issues and it'll be late today before I can test it from my windows 7 enterprise laptop from home. Probably just a codec problem but if everything else video works then its either U tube OR it could be you don't have Adobe Flash and Shockwave players installed or up to date - try that and see if that fixes the problem.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi,Will all the video displayed via utube encounter the black screen? What was it like (exact symptom) when it black out the screen? Did it occur right after clicking Play or in the middle of the vedio stream? If all vedio failed only on utube, there might be conflict between IE and utube add-ons. I suggest reset IE to check the result.Note: the following steps will remove all of installed add-ons, passwords, etc. and reset IE to default settings. We need to reinstall the add-ons after resetting.1. Click "Start", type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) and press "Enter" to open the Internet options window.2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab.3. Click "Reset…" to reset Internet Explorer settings.4. Check "Delete personal settings" and click "Reset" to confirm the operation.5. Click "Close" when the resetting process is complete.6. Launch "Internet options" window and switch to the "Advanced" tab again.7. Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" in the Settings box.7. Switch to the "General" tab, click "Use Blank" under the Home page area8. Click "Apply" and “OK".9. Close the Internet Explorer window. Restart IE and check on utube webiste while there might be pop ups remindering you need to install certain plugins.

I had a problem earlier this week (3/24/2010) with wireless network drivers triggering a B(lue)SOD, but I mention it here because the crash would only hit when watching a video on YouTube. I found that updating the drivers for my network adapter solved the problem. In my case, Windows' Update Driver wizard told me the newest drivers were already installed, but a quick trip to the manufacturer's website told me otherwise. If you're only finding this happens when watching an online video, you may be in the same boat I was. Hope this is helpful to you. Good luck!
