Everytime i boot up my computer and log into my account (which is the admin account) it says preparing to load your desktop then says that windows failed to load my profile and that i've been logged into a temporary profile and that any changes I make will not be saved when I log out. This computer is fairly new so i don't know why it is doing that. i've tried to go by he help section microsoft gave but I do not have an active users and computer option to click on. When i click on the manage under computer and the user profiles option there i tells me that my profile is set as backup and the other option is temp. it gives me option to delete the backup but not the temp and i don't want to lose all of my files and such by deleting the backup. I just want to be able to log back into my own profile. I've tried restarting and shutting down and waiting a little while before rebooting and it's still happening. Please help !

Hi, Thank you for your post. Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following information with you: 1. Does the Windows Vista machine join a domain? 2. When did the issue occur? Did any steps being performed before the issue occurred? A possible cause of this issue is that the account is member of the Guest group. Thus, please check it via Computer Management: 1. Click Start, type compmgmt.msc in the Start Search box and press Enter. 2. In the Computer Management window, expand System Tools\Local Users and Groups, and click Users 3. In the right pane, double-click the account has encountered the issue, and select Member Of tab 4. Remove Guest group if it exists. If Guest group does not exist, the profile of this account may be corrupted. I'm not really sure if i am part of a domain or not?I don't think that I am. It's my home laptop. When I do that, there isn't an option to view local user groups or users.

Hi Joson,I have the same issue from time to time. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Every once in a while I get the "...failed to load your profile, you have been logged on with a temporary profile..." etc. This machine is not part of a domain, my account is nota member of the Guests group, my only membership is in the Users group on this machine.Any ideas?Nothing really stands out in any of the event logs either.Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a question. My computer is doing the same thing that this man was talking about. It just keeps loading a temp file and I don't want to reboot my computer becasue I don't know what I need on it. Please help me with this situation because its messin with my computer and the fact that I can't save anything. But I already tried the first ting you suggested and the response he gave is the same as mine, and I was trying to do what you had said in the second suggestion but I need help understanding it a little bit. I am bringing this topic back to the forefront of everyone's minds. I am currently working on my uncles Acer Aspire 5335 Notebook which is running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. He said when he purchased the laptop it was not doing this, that was back in Q2 of 2009. This is a recent thing and it also appears that just within the past week he has been getting a pop up claiming that an Unauthorized Change has been made to his Activation Key and that he might be a victim of Software Counterfeiting. What is there to do to fix these problems, I have saved those event logs and will upload them to that link you give me if you would like. He needs this up and running successfully as he uses it for his DJ business and its been causing nothing but problems. I also think it is the cause of his grief from trying to activate a DJ program on this computer. I have contacted Acer to no avail and it doesn't seem like they are going to make this their number 1 priority, especially with them striving to get everyone to upgrade to Windows 7 (Which would be a much better choice these days, but that is just nitpicking :P)

i had the same problem that this person had on my desktop computer, i tried the suggestion but nothing has changed, i don't know if i am doing it wrong or what :S.when i save event as c for application and system is one suppose to overwrite the other?Please help me, does it make a difference that its Vista home?Kind RegardsTanger

Hi All,I am an experienced IT pro and one of my colleagues is having this "loading temporary profile" issue regularly with Vista Home Premium 32bit.This is a list of what I have tried to date.1) I have reset his profile registry key at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE|Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList" on several occasions. What I do is to remove the .BAK extension from the relevant S-1-5..... user key and set the "State" sub key back to 0 (zero). After a reboot he can login as normal for a couple of days. Before the temp profile issue returns.2) Taking the advice from this forum I created a new account altogether and removed the old one. This has worked for a week, but now he has the temp profile issue. Any ideas on a permant fix (other than Windows 7 upgrade) would be most welcome. I myself and running Windows 7, but not long enough to see if this "temp Profile" and also the famoous "profile service failed the logon" actualy manifest themselves in Windows 7.regards,Simon

i was doing something similair to what you have described, got a laptop to config, and create an image from - i created the 1st laptop i wanted to ghost, so removed my own profile from the c:\users\<my name> and the other two, rebooted and got the above error you got. I'm using windows 7 enterprise, its also loading thw Windows Classic theme.
