Temp freeze during start-up.
I have recently been confronted with a short (1-2 min.) freeze during the start-up process. Six of the ICONs next to the time appear very soon after start up - then a long pause - and the remaining three ICONs show up. The three ICONs that appear last are my network connection, SUPERAntiSpyware, and my CA virus scan. Very soon after the last ICON appears, I see what I think is another ICON saying that my firewall is not active. This last ICON is only present for about a half second before it disappears. I have checked immediately after seeing the firewall ICON and my firewall is turned on. I have performed a clean boot as described in Microsoft Article ID: 310353. I have also gone to the "General" tab of the System Configuration Utility and did a "Selective Startup" and next I did a "Diagnostic Startup." Nothing changed my freeze problem during either of these process.I would appreciate any help on how to fix this freeze problem.Windows XP SP3 1 person needs an answerI do too

Hello, What operating system are you running? Windows XP SP3 is a Service Pack, not an operating system. Remove SUPERAntiSpyware because CA Anti-Virus includes an Anti-Spyware component. Running both will slow down the computer boot-up time. thecreator

Thanks for your response - this is my first time post here.My operating system is Windows XP Pro. More to add to what I posted earlier - I did a complete virus scan on my system using CA...I ran Windows - kb890830-v3.12.exe against the system - nothing was found during the two scans. I deactivated the SUPERAntiSpyware whild I was involved with the startup steps I documented in my first message - no improvement. This software was on my system for several years with CA and there was no conflict during those years.

This may be true, but the program changes or you may have a bad DAT update that is causing the problem. Have you notified CA? thecreator

Yes, I have talked to the CA techs about two problems that I am having with their virus scan software. The most recent version of CA virus scan has a .dat file in it that is causing another program on my system (MailWasher) to crash at times. The second problem involved what I thought was CA causing my system startup freeze problem. The CA tech removed one software package from my system (Malwarebytes) that he thought might be causing my problem. He also removed the CA Virus Scan package from my system; downloaded a new copy of the same software; and reloaded CA Virus Scan software back on my system. I tested this for a time and MailWasher continued to crash and I continued to have startup freeze problems. I have also talked to the techs at MailWasher and they say the CA software includes a .dat file that is causing the problem with MailWasher crashes. He also said that the MailWasher software writers are attempting to find a way to solve this problem. That action is good, but it does not solve my startup problem. So, the short answer is - yes, I have talked to the CA techs and I am right where I was before that phone conversation.
