Taskbar Thumbnail previews eliminated successfully, but taskbar LIST previews still prevail, though now the trigger for their pop up has changed
I am running Windows 7 Prof 64 bit. IE is IE8. In attempt to get rid of Taskbar THUMBNAIL preview and Taskbar LIST preview, I tried a lot of tricks mentioned online. (I’ve mentioned them at the bottom). As a result of these steps, I’ve got rid of the Taskbar Thumbnail Preview disease, but the “Taskbar LIST VIEW” still prevails. Though, their behavior has changed.. Usually when we take mouse to taskbar items, then we see a Taskbar Preview.. that is no more the case.. but now the Preview (which is List Preview) springs up when I take the mouse AWAY from any taskbar item (after clicking on a taskbar item to minimize or maximize or bring forward a window). The issue is that I don’t want the List Preview either (basically don’t want any taskbar previews). Can anyone please suggest me how to get rid of it? One thing I have observed is that when Internet Explorer is the only application I’m using, then the popping up of “Taskbar LIST views” is less frequent compared to the case when other applications are open alongwith IE. (These other apps could be On-screen keyboard , yahoo messenger, gtalk, MS Word file, notepad, pdf file or literally any other application). Though in either case (whether when only IE is open or when other apps are also open alongwith IE), when the List view pop-ups happen, their trigger is always the same, which is: taking the mouse away from the taskbar after clicking on a taskbar item to minimize or maximize or bring forward a window. I’ve also tested the issue in a new user profile, and the problem persists, that is, I can’t get rid of List previews. I mentioned above that I tried some tricks. Those tricks are mentioned below: 1.) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced : Created/set DWORD value DisablePreviewWindow= 1. : Created/set DWORD value “ExtendedUIHoverTime” = 999999. : DWORD value ShowInfoTip = 0 2.) Alternatively I also tried deleting ExtendedUIHoverTime and increasing MouseHoverTime to 4000 msec. 3.) HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Taskband : Created/set DWORD value MaxThumbSizePx = 1 4.) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer : Created/set DWORD value TaskbarNoThumbnail = 1 5.) Turned off taskbar thumbnails in right pane of Local Group Policy editor. 6.) I’ve changed the theme to a basic one, instead of Aero. Also, I’ve turned off Aero peek. 7.) Open the Control Panel, click the System icon… Click on the Advanced System settings, then Under the Advanced tab and Performance section, click on the Settings button. Here, what was initially was "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer". I clicked on "custom" and unchecked most of the options as was suggested online on some website. In summary, as a result of above steps, I've overcome Taskbar Thumbnail Previews. But, now the problem is Taskbar LIST previews.. now these list previews are not annoying in the usual way, but are still annoying me (detail mentioned in 1st paragraph). I want to get rid of them. Please advise.

Hi, Please try to follow these steps: · 1. Click the Start button, type regedit in the Start Search box and press ENTER. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue. 2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced 3. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime 4. Double-click DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime and click Decimal. 5. To increase the hover delay to 5 seconds, type 5000. Similarly, type 10000 for 10 seconds and so forth… 6. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer. Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. Hi, Thanks for being so kind to answer. I just now tried the step you suggested by giving 20 sec delay but unfortunately the problem stays. I tested the problem again in the following way: - I restarted the laptop, then opened multiple windows of IE and MS Word. - Then I clicked on these items on taskbar (that represent the various windows).. tried different click patterns.. I clicked and moved mouse away from taskbar item; clicked on taskbar item, then again clicked on same item, then moved mouse away from it.. repeated randomly for multiple items lying on the taskbar.. for some time the Previews didn't occur.. then suddenly the List Preview popped-up.. then they kept popping-up for some time every time I went to taskbar items, but after some time they stopped occuring.. and later again occured.. so their popping up is very random. What seems to me is that the tricks I've tried (including the one you've suggested) have indeed made the "real" List previews stop occuring, but because of some bug in Windows, its this ghost Preview functionality that's still getting invoked by some particular click patterns, and probably gets disabled by some particular click patterns, because in my case, the occurance and non-occurance of Preview Pop-ups is random.. and the only action I can relate this to is "clicking taskbar items and then taking mouse away". This was the same problem eariler. And this is what is most annoying.. when I am doing some work on my laptop, then this random popping up and unwantedly occupying the full height of the display by these previews is so distractive. Can you or any forum members be so kind to suggest any other tricks? Also, my another question is, why is it that there is no way to simply shut-off (disable) previews, rather than inducing 'hover' delays?

Hi, There’s no way to simply turn off preview when the mouse cover on the icons. That’s a by design feature. Set the live preview hover time seem the only way to delay the time of the preview. And I have tested it on my machine and it works well. Thank you for your understanding.
