Task switch not changing Z-order, active window not visible
I have two almost identical machines running windows XP, SP3. On one, task switching works as expected. On the problem machine, if I alt-tab to a DOS command window (CMD.EXE) the DOS window becomes active to receive keystrokes, but does not become
visible, staying hidden under the window that was previously on top.
If I then click CMD.EXE on the taskbar, it flashes visible momentarily then minimizes.
If I keep clicking various tasks (I usually have a couple of game windows and a browser window up) I can eventually get the command screen visible. Sometimes if I try to switch to CMD.EXE by clicking the task bar it works, but also changes the other
window showing behind it... the one which was active when I tried to switch to CMD.EXE is no longer second in Z-order, as it should be.
Frustrating.
