Task scheduler never sees the PC is idle
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit with SP1. I have a task set up in task scheduler that should run if the PC has been idle for at least 10 minutes. I just logged onto the PC and see several errors in the Task Scheduler history stating that the task could not run because the PC was not idle. I haven't touched the computer for more than six hours, I don't have any applications open, I do have some desktop gadgets, but nothing critical. There are no background processes running that require the PC to remain on. These errors do not give any clue as to why the PC was not idle. How can I determine what is keeping the PC from sleeping? A few entries from the history... Hi, To detect the root cause, you may try to boot into Clean Boot to check if this issue persists: 1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights. 2. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 3. On the General tab, click to select the option Selective startup, and then click to clear the option Load startup items check box. 4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all. 5. Click OK, and then click Restart. If this issue still exists, this could be related some hardware, if your system only has the basic hardware devices and it should be more stable, please unplug unnecessary devices to test this issue. In other words there is no way to log when the PC goes idle, or what software/hardware is resetting the idle flag/timer. I have tried disabling services and disconnecting hardware, etc. without any results. There should be SOME way to log or report what the PC is doing that make it considered as not-idle.
