Although the search for "0x80004005 task scheduler" (and other error related terms) yields results they were either solved by the steps above, or refer to an unavailable software ("SysTaskFix.exe") or are for non-XP systems. RPC is running (Task Scheduler is dependent on the RPC service =Remote Procedure call). The whole thing happened from one day to another. Everything else works. ARGH! HELP!! Hi, Have you tired this...Create a local user with admin previleges.. and edit the property of your task... give "Run as"...that local account name and give the password.Hope this will help.

This is not possible. As I wrote in my post the "Task Tab" is red-only. I cannot type anything into the "Run as..." field.
