Task Scheduler error 0x80004005 Unspecified Error____The attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task failed; therefore, the task did not run. Either an error occurred, or no account information existed for the task.
((I have Windows XP SP3 with all the newest fixes.))Suddenly ALL my scheduled tasks won't run ("Could not start")When I double-click a task then I get a warning window ("General page initialization failed. The specific Error is: 0x80004005: Unspecified error. An error has occurred attempting to retrieve task account information. You may continue editing the task object, but will be unable to change task account information") SchedLgU.Txt says "The attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task failed; therefore, the task did not run. Either an error occurred, or no account information existed for the task."The event viewer shows nothing suspicious The Task Scheduler Service is enabled and log on is "Local System Account" and "Allow service to interact with desktop"After I double click a task (and the above error message appears) I can edit each tab of the task ("Schedule", "Setting", "Security") but the tab "Task" is read-only Here is what I tried and what failedDeleted "c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18\" --> Problem persistsDeleted all tasks and recreated them --> Problem persists Renamed all tasks --> Problem persists Changed credentials of the .job files ("schtasks /change ...") --> "Unspecified error"Renamed Workgroup --> Problem persists Renamed Computername --> Problem persist Logged in as "Administrator" --> Problem persists Created a new user with administrator rights, logged in as that user, added new Task ("Add scheduled tasks"), task gets added (without any errors) but --> Problem persistsComplete Virus Scan including Rootkits --> Problem persists CHKDSK --> Problem persists Bad Track scan --> Problem persists Google was not my friend. Although the search for "0x80004005 task scheduler" (and other error related terms) yields results they were either solved by the steps above, or refer to an unavailable software ("SysTaskFix.exe") or are for non-XP systems. RPC is running (Task Scheduler is dependent on the RPC service =Remote Procedure call). The whole thing happened from one day to another. Everything else works. ARGH! HELP!! PLEASE!!!1 person needs an answerI do too
