Task Scheduler and Event Viewer broken
I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I'll start with the Task Scheduler...When I click on it for the first time after I boot up I get a window that says "Remote Computer Not Found", then I click ok and the window opens but without anything listed. Strangely enough I can then go to Services and look for the Task Scheduler there but when I open up properties, there's problems. First of all, everything other than start is greyed-out and it's stuck in manual. If I do click on start in services and then go back to Task Scheduler in Admin tools it will then open just fine, but after I shut down for the day, and I think even after a reboot, I have to go through the same routine again. Now on to Event Viewer. First of all both Event Viewer services are on automatic and running, but when I try to open up Event Viewer in Administrative Tools, I get a error message that says "MMC has detected an error in snap-in and will unload it" Below that and checked it it says "Unload the snap-in and continue running" and the OK button is below that. When I then click on OK I get another error window that says"Unhandled exception in managed code snap-in" in the title box. Under that are two entries: "FX:{b05566ae-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510}" Under that: "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation." Then there's a line and below that "Exception Type:" Below that "System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException" Below that "Exception Stack Trace" Below that a another window with a drop-down menu. (I copied all the contects of that window): at System.RuntimeTypeHandle.CreateInstance(RuntimeType type, Boolean publicOnly, Boolean noCheck, Boolean& canBeCached, RuntimeMethodHandle& ctor, Boolean& bNeedSecurityCheck) at System.RuntimeType.CreateInstanceSlow(Boolean publicOnly, Boolean fillCache) at System.RuntimeType.CreateInstanceImpl(Boolean publicOnly, Boolean skipVisibilityChecks, Boolean fillCache) at System.Activator.CreateInstance(Type type, Boolean nonPublic) at Microsoft.ManagementConsole.FormView.InternalInitialize() at Microsoft.ManagementConsole.View.HandleInitializationRequest(IRequestStatus requestStatus) at Microsoft.ManagementConsole.View.ProcessRequest(Request request) at Microsoft.ManagementConsole.ViewMessageClient.ProcessRequest(Request request) at Microsoft.ManagementConsole.Internal.IMessageClient.ProcessRequest(Request request) at Microsoft.ManagementConsole.Executive.RequestStatus.BeginRequest(IMessageClient messageClient, RequestInfo requestInfo) at Microsoft.ManagementConsole.Executive.SnapInRequestOperation.ProcessRequest() at Microsoft.ManagementConsole.Executive.Operation.OnThreadTransfer(SimpleOperationCallback callback) Then I click OK and the error message goes away Here are two screenshots I made: http://i52.tinypic.com/2dl8zup.jpg http://i51.tinypic.com/2edwent.jpg

Hi, Does the issue persist in Safe Mode? Also try a Clean Boot to check if it works. If the problem still exists, I suggest perform a system file check. Click Start, run cmd as administrator, input the command sfc /scannow If it doesn't help, try to use the Process Monitor to caputer the process which could help find the failure. I didn't work in Safe Mode either, but I have gotten Task Scheduler to work now. I did an over-the-top Windows 7 repair, but still having the same problems with the Event viewer. I also tried a clean boot but that did not help. I did not have Process Explorer loaded before, but I downloaded it, but really can't understand much of it. I did make an Excel log file from it though if you can let me know where to send it to.
