Task Manager startup bug revisited in 8.1

There was a previous thread on TM's quirks in Win8.

I'm specifically concerned with the bug whereby if TM isn't exited manually, that is, if you restart the system or crash TM, then TM's customized settings are lost.

Incredibly, this is still present in 8.1.

It used to be that you could restore this key to regain your customizations (I even had this automated at startup):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TaskManager

That's no longer enough, as it has no effect. TM is still at defaults.

Does anyone know what other location is needed?  It's either something else entirely or something in addition. I did some cursory checking with Process Monitor but haven't found anything yet.

Windows isn't there. In any case, MS clearly doesn't consider this a bug, so I doubt it will be fixed.

Anyway, still looking for the new location for the settings. It has to be somewhere. With that, I can continue to work around it.
