The problem could be the result of a malware infestation. What anti-virus and anti-spyware software is installed? Are there other unexplained problems?Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer forErrors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48hours ago.You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaningof the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Descriptionare important.A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and doubleclick on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is abutton resembling two pages. Click the button and close EventViewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body ofthe message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting fromEvent Viewer. Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

Task Manager is a popular target for malicious software because the malicious software knows you will probably use Task Manager to find it and get rid of it. Some malicious software will disable or otherwise break the options it thinks you are likely to use to try to get rid of it, so you can just outsmart it.The malicious software would much rather you try to use a Restore Point, a Repair Install or just give up and reinstall your XP from scratch. None of those are good options. Describe what happens when you try to launch Task Nanager.Does it appear that nothing happens?Do you see an hourglass briefly?Do you see a message resembling this:Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator. The solution depends on the affliction, so first run some scans for malicious software to try to be reasonably sure any malicious software has been removed and then if Task Manger still doesn't work after the scans, we will fix it.Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining issues:Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/They can be uninstalled later if desired. When the scans run clean, then troubleshoot any remaining issues.Do, or do not. There is no try.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!
