Open a command window (start menu>run, type "cmd" without the qoutes, then click "OK") and type in the following without the qoutes, copy and paste if needed, "copy C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\taskmgr.exe C:\Windows\System32" , now, if you get a prompt asking whether you want to replace the file thats there, then he didnt delete it, but you can choose yes and replace it anyway. try that and see if it will make taskmanger available to you Dennis ,, Owner: Please dont forget to mark any post(s) that helped as helpful or answered EMAIL ME:: PERSONAL EMAIL :: BUSINESS EMAIL

I tried that and it did give me the prompt. I answered yes that I wanted to replace it. It still however did not allow me to bring up Task Manager. When I do ctrl-alt-del or if left click on the bar at the bottom of my screen and click on Task Manager. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

At any time was he using the Group Policy Editor? are you getting a prompt that access is denied, or is it doing nothing at all?Dennis ,, Owner: Please dont forget to mark any post(s) that helped as helpful or answered EMAIL ME:: PERSONAL EMAIL :: BUSINESS EMAIL

I'm not sure what the heck she did to "fix" it. I was on vacation and apparently the computer was doing something odd when I was gone. When I try to get into task manager absolutely nothing happens - no messages at all. Am I doomed or is this fixable? Thanks!

Try this and see if she disabled task manager, if so then this should re-enable it. open notepad and copy then paste whats below the line to it, then click on "File>Save As" at the top, on the "Save As Type" change that from "Text(.txt)" to "All Files" on the dropdown menu. then save it to the desktop naming it restoretaskman.reg , now make sure that it has the .reg extension, now right click it and choose "Merge". that will require a reboot of the system to see if it works or not. try that and let me know if it does or not ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000 "**del.DisableTaskMgr"=" " [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\] "DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "DisableCAD"=dword:00000000 Dennis ,, Owner: Please dont forget to mark any post(s) that helped as helpful or answered EMAIL ME:: PERSONAL EMAIL :: BUSINESS EMAIL
