TaskBar Icons blank logging into another computer

I have a problem whereby if a staff member has an application shortcut pinned to their task bar, when logging into to a computer that doesn't have that application installed, the task bar icon disappears on that computer. And when they log back on to their original computer, the shortcut is white and can't be used.

We have redirected appdata and roaming profiles.

How can we avoid windows from corrupting the icons?

Hi,

According to your description, this problem should be caused by Roaming profile.

Generally speaking, application data for personal would store at appdata folder. While it main application was installed at C:\Program Files.

When login the user to other computer, the problem occurs.

When use login, can you start the application from its original location? I doubt this is the application itself problem, it's hard to find a method to resolve it.

Yes. if the application is not installed on the second PC, then the shortcut doesn't show, which is to be expected.

my issue is when I go back to my own PC, the icon is broken and doesn't work. even though it was created on that machine originally.

Hi,

In my opinion, you can try to exclude the appdata folder from Roaiming Profile for test:

Exclude directories in roaming profile:

My %APPDATA% location is not part of the roaming profile, it's actually redirected via GPO.
