TPM not listed in device manager
Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my TPM chip in Vista. I have a Lenovo T60P that I previously had Vista running with Bitlocker. This was using the built-in v 1.2 TPM chip that is listed in Device Manager and funcitoning fine (I sitll have this image on the drive, though I've turned off Bitlocker as I was migrating to a new image). On the new Vista image (our company got acquired) TPM is not listed in Device Manager. I've worked with IT briefly, but we can't figure out what's going on. I've tried disabling and re-enabling in BIOS and it still doesn't . There are no unidentified devices that would indicate a missing driver and I've tried re-installing drivers on Lenovo's site (though it indicates the drivers are included in Vista nad in the past we haven't needed them). I'm thinking that this image was build using another model and something is hidden in the registry that is preventing Windows from recognizing the correct TPM chip. Any suggestions on how I can get this working without getting IT to re-build an image from scratch (somehow I doubt I can get them to do that ) Thanks, K.

Hi, I suggest you first try installing the driver below: Atmel TPM (Trusted Platform Module) device driver for Windows Vista 32-bit, XP, 2000 - ThinkPad http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-58054.html Meanwhile, please make sure that you have installed Windows Vista Enterprise or Ultimate.

Hi Sean, Thanks for your reply. As I stated in my original post, I tried re-installing the drivers you've linked to with no success. Yes, I can confirm I'm also running Vista Enterprise. I think something during the image creation by our IT has rendered the TPM drivers on this machine 'locked'. I'm trying to figure out if there is something I can delte in the registry or elsewhere to cause Windows to see that the hardware is there and install the drivers for i. As it stands Device Manager doesn't see the existence of the TPM as it's not listed and there are no Unidentified devices. I can confirm this same image on another model Lenovo laptop does have the TPM listed, but 2 other installs with this same model don't. Also, I tried swapping my old Vista Enterpise drive back in and the TPM is listed so I know it's not a BIOS or hardware issue. Any other suggestions?

OK, so I got a bit further. I decided to look at device manager again and I finally noticed that Atmel TPM listed under System devices. I deced to try and uninstall the Lenovo drivers (Vista includes drivers) and I uninstalled and deleted the drivers in Device Manager as well. I rebooted and finally I have Trusted Platform Module 1.2 listed under the Security Devices. Thinking my problem was solved I launched the Bitlocker applet but it still warns of no compatible TPM! I also tried the tpm.msc console but I get the same problem. Is there a way to get these guys to re-scan for the TPM? I'm assuming it they do so every time I open them, but maybe something is cached?! I'm going to try and disable the TPM and re-enable in BIOS and see if that re-initializes it in Windows, but any other suggestions welcome.
