TO: MS Devs who designed Sharing in Win7
(or should i say, did not properly design) In all sincere honesty, Win7 Sharing is garbage. I have yet to get "Advanced Sharing" to work on my LAN without enabling the no password option. I want to require a username/pw, just like XP/2000/2003. I can get it to prompt me but it will not accept my login no matter what I try from my XP box. You put too many options under Network \ Advanced Sharing - it is too confusing. Not sure how you expect end users to figure out what settings they need? This definitely did not go through UAT with the average mom/pop user. You should have only a few settings... Individual Users (username/pw required), Homegroup (same as you have now), Public (no password required) -- everyone can EASILY understand these. I'm a 12 yr vet with NT/2000/etc who can easily figure out registry perms, NTFS security, and group policy resultant sets based on precedence and Win7 sharing is frustrating...

I suppose you are trying to use the new HomeGroup feature with a XP box? If so, MS specifically designed HomeGroup to run/work only on win7 PCs (another stupid move by MS...), Vista and below OSes cant connect to your Homegroup stuff, only win7 PCs can.Hello! It is more than that... the entire design of ALL the sharing, HomeGroup and Advanced... total garbage. I'm sure no one who conjured up this mess ever asked actual users what they thought. I must give the Everyone group Full Control just to get files back/forth since the username/password authentication does not work. I'd have fired the retard that designed this mess. I extend an open invitation for the "genius" that designed this to fire back with some MIT design study they did... I'm sure we will never hear from that person, especially since there was likely never any study beyond the guy he was hitting the bong with when he designed it.
