TCP/IP stack on Firewire/1394
Hey, Is there a way to "paste" a TCP/IP stack on the IEEE 1394 (Firewire) controller? Under Win XP IP networking over Firewire was supported, but since Win Vista all support is gone... Too bad, because I'm using this interface to sync computer and laptop. There's no other way (e.g. Ethernet) I can sync both because the IP addresses aren't in the same range. Laptop is most used on an other location with a fixed IP address (don't want to change the IP config every time I have to sync). So I assigned a fixed IP address to the 1394 network adapters and use that channel to sync (Win XP). Besides the IP problem I'd rather use the Firewire interface because it's faster than the 22Mbit wireless network (laptop) or the 100Mbit wired network (and in fact there isn't another network cable available for the laptop on my desk). So since I often have to sync up to 2GB I'd like to have a fast connection (saves me couple minutes). Any suggestions? H-V

Hi, From the following document, we can see TCP/IP stack on the IEEE 1394 is no longer supported. IP networking over the IEEE 1394 bus is not supported in Windows Vista and in all later versions of Windows New Networking Features in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista I am sorry for the inconvenience you experienced. Alternatively, you may build a wired LAN (commonly, it is faster that wireless connection) by adding a router or switch and a network cable to connect the computers. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
