TCP/IP socket device and windows 7
Got a network of four XP machines and they can each communicate with a TCP/IP hardware device that runs IP4 with a fixed address. Works fine now for several years. Added a windows 7 x64 professional box with static IP address to network. It can connect and ping any of the XP boxes (also static IP addresses). But it cannot ping the TCP/IP device. It just times out (but not the message that it's unreachable). I go back, and any of the XP boxes can ping the device with reply. Turned off and removed Norton's network filter, still no joy. What could be blocking a simple 'ping' to my hardware device from Windows 7, yet still work with XP?? Other than this device, Windows 7 networking seems okay (posted this from the Windows 7 machine that can't ping the hardware TCP/IP device). Machine can share files, browse 'net through gateway, everything but reach this one device that is local (same subnet as rest of boxes). THanks for any help Mike

Hi, Since Windows 7 machine can access Windows XP machine normally, we can consider that the network setting is correct. At this stage, please temporarily turn off firewall for a test. If the issue persists, I suggest you also involve the TCP/IP device’s manufacturer for further assistance and check whether the device is compatible with Windows 7. Thanks, Novak
