I used System Restore to restore my system to a previous configuration. After restoring, I could no longer log on to Administrator using my password. The system was set up so the administrator is the only account. What happened to the password, and how can I recover it?System Restore should not have changed any passwords: Windows XP passwords and hints are not restored. This behavior is by design to prevent confusion and to prevent you from getting locked out of your computer because the restore point includes an old password that you do not remember. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=295050&sd=RMVPNevertheless, I assume that you are, indeed, locked out of the account. If this is the built-in Administrator account and there are no other accounts on the machine with administrator privileges, now you know why it is stronly recommended that you NOT use that account for every day purposes. It's supposed to be there for emergencies. The default password for the built-in Administrator account is blank (i.e., no password). If this doesn't work, and if the password you remember doesn't work, then Google for assistance. Microsoft does not permit discussions in this forum concerning how to deal with "forgotten" passwords.
