For jason, For the the problem computer : I have an hp desktop computer . A fresh reinstall would definitely solve this problem since i didnt had it right after i installed win 7 . (i did use the system restore and it worked fine) a possibility that can cause this problem : 1. I accidently deleted acronis secure zone from win 7 hard disk in xp hard disk. (volume shadow copy error) Although there is nothing wrong in xp after this accident. I have an asus laptop beside the desktop hp , this is my second operating system there and i had no problems there. This is because there is only one disk there and no errors of volume shadow copy are possible this way.

Hi, This error can be caused by many factors. Please refer to the following steps to check the result. 1. Try to create a new restore point and restore for testing. If it works, it is to say the previous restore point is corrupted. 2. Make sure Volume Shadow Copy Service is running. 3. Run SFC to check corrupted system file and let me know the log. 4. Perform system restore from Windows Recovery console. You can access the console by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts, selecting startup repair. I ran into this with an Asus system, I believe from many retries that it has to do with the drivers for Asus, I did a fresh reinstall and then let windows update do the driver updates vs. installing the Asus ones that shiped with it, and the machie has run like a champ since.:P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. The answer is always 42, or reboot.

Niki .... i have not solved this case. There has got to be a way to reregister or install the system restore. This problem may have been caused by moving the "internet temporary files" folder to another disk . Then this disk was taken out of the computer and by that causing the error. I found a thread that suggested to do some CMD operations but i got an error while doing the procedure suggested and no one answers me there for about a month. link: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/system-restore-does-not-work-please-tell-me-what/469ef99c-55a1-4fa4-8e5a-2550b33b2e4c
