I just lost everything on my computer and had to install the origional disc for windows XP, now system is hanging up in the screen where you can choose Safe mode and you have to just let it continue to try on its own till it finally starts because if you choose it will freeze up and not do anything also now its saying that the browser needs to be updated but when I tried to update IE8 it says that "The procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll" Please help. All of the disk are origional disc, Gateway computer, Windows XP Home Edition version 2002.

Hi, I would suggest you to perform a SFC (System file checker) scan on the system and check whether the issue is resolved.
