for my dell computer I can press f12 during a boot and it will then run dell diagnositcs. i ran these and everything passed. On the hyperlink page that you posted it had "To run Windows Memory Diagnostic, you must reboot your computer with the disk or CD-ROM on which you installed Windows Memory Diagnostic in the drive." My computer came from dell with preinstalled windows xp. They did not provide a CD-rom to reinstall the operating system. Does that preclude me from running the test? Have I already run an equivalent test with the dell diagnostics with F12 upon reboot and spending the hours going through all their tests? What happens when you start a system from a clean state? What do I do when in the clean state? Do I then use the computer with only some programs functioning and check for errors? Not knowing which programs may or may not function? Will this eliminate all restore points or did I misunderstand the info :"Step 4: Optional step to disable featuresIf the clean boot fixed the error, you do not have to perform this step. Important If your problem is not fixed and you do have to follow this step, it permanently removes all restore points from your computer. The System Restore feature uses restore points to restore your computer to an earlier state. If you remove the restore points, you can no longer restore Windows to an earlier state. I saw the analyze and the forum option but did not send it and posted it here. I did not know that I was only supposed to send it to you directly. With 4 software programs not finding any malware i think I'm ok there. Let me know what to do to solve this DCOM error. There are many in the event viewer and they occur approximately 20 x per day. If I make changes please let me know any pitfalls so I'll know how to make the appropriate alterations.

I'm not experienced enough to alter the registry but I decide to look at it. When I follow the instructions from the hyperlink that I posted at the start of this thread I went into the registry by run>regedit>edit>find>i entered: HKLMit produced:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\America Online\Uninstalls\RegKeysHKLM\Software\America Online\InstallsHKLM\Software\America Online\OCPHKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\AOL Uninstaller So it appears to me that AOL is the culprit? Is that the correct? If so what do I do now? If not what is the next step?

What are you referring to when you write run disk clean up? Is that what I run regularly when I go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup?I run defrag each week for my c drive. Why do I want to run it immediately after removing AOL? What is the additional benefit? What is the difference between running defrag with a fresh boot and running defrag in safe mode? Why is one better than the other? If running in safe mode is better how is that done?Is it possible that even with a new version of AOL it is made in such a way that it will always produce this DCOM error? How would I know before I start to uninstall the software wheter it is bad software or wheter it is the way the aol software interacts with windows xp?

How would I know before I start to uninstall the software wheter it is bad software or wheter it is the way the aol software interacts with windows xp?Hi,Why I'm instructing you to run disk clean up after uninstalling AOL?- To rid of then orphans will be left behind after uninstall the software and prepare for the new installer for the new version of AOL not to see the old entries and get confused and issue all sort of errors or not install properly! What the difference of running it in Normal Mode from running it InSafe Mode ?It is all about time! It will be faster running in Safe Mode as not a lot of services starting with Windows which will make it faster for theDefrager to defrag in less time than Normal Mode where most if not all services starting up and take time to populate, get ready and some may interfere with the Defrag process. It is hard to know and it is guarantee that Uninstall/Reinstall AOL will solve the problem - but it is the only Culprit showing up that may causing the issue.Try it. You will not lose anything, you will get AOL back working again. You can run the defrag in Safe Mode the same way you run it in Normal Mode >> Double click "My Computer" and select your C:\ Partition and right click >. Select properties >> Tools and your two options listed there. nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk
