System crashes and doesn't post.
I have a Vista Ultimate machine that I've been running for about a year that I installed W7 x64on. The install went seamlessly, all of the setup (installing programs, customization, etc) went just as well. Everything was perfect. I even turned off all of the sleep/hibernate modes because I always leave my computer on.I turned off the monitor and went to bed leaving the computer idling. When I woke up the next day, the computer was still on, so I turned on the monitor and moved the mouse and it rebooted. It did almost a complete boot, allowing me to get into windows for about 5 seconds, and then it automatically tried to boot again and would not post. I did a bios reset (turn off power supply, remove battery from mobo, put battery back)and everything fired back up. I checked the system logs and I found4 error logs that fired just before the computer crashed (forgive me, it's long...lol):ErrorThe previous system shutdown at 8:20:45 AM on 1/14/2009 was unexpected. - <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System> <Provider Name="EventLog" /> <EventID Qualifiers="32768">6008</EventID> <Level>2</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2009-01-14T14:22:53.000000000Z" /> <EventRecordID>954</EventRecordID> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>Vilmo</Computer> <Security /> </System> - <EventData> <Data>8:20:45 AM</Data> <Data>1/14/2009</Data> <Data /> <Data /> <Data>34291</Data> <Data /> <Data /> <Binary>D907010003000E00080014002D00C501D907010003000E000E0014002D00C5013C0000003C000000000000000000000000000000000000000100000000000000</Binary> </EventData> </Event> Error The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. Youmay wantto start a new thread with detailed information on your system and your specific issue. This thread went stale a long time ago and unless you upgraded to Windows 7 x64 (build 7000) from Vista on the same hardware/configuration (and you are still running it) then your problem and resolution will likely be very different. My quick response it that if you are indeed still running build 7000 (beta) then you should strongly consider upgrading to the RC (7100).Good luck!

Wins - The only real answers at the moment - there are some bugs in the sleep/standby/hibernation features of Win 7. The programmers are aware of the situation and should be working to fix them. Until then, the only real solution is to disable sleep, standby and hibernation on your system. Wish I had better news to report on that...
