System crash after SP3 install - please help
Hi all, thanks for reading this.I installed SP3 on a HP Compaq dx2300 microtower. After rebooting, I can get to nothing.- Safe boot options, Last Known Use and all other options on F8 menu do not work, it just reboots- a small window with a red X and no words shows up before rebootingI ran the diagnostics with the CD provided and all tests come back positiveI now have the HD isolated in a Hard Drive Enclosure. I can access all of the files, but when I go to System Restore it says "rstrui.exe Ordinal Not Found - The ordinal 2 could not be located in the dynamic link library SRRSTR.dll."Please help!

There is no sp3 for win7, so what o/s do you have? You wont be able to restore a none active drive

Is the operating system Windows XP?If put the harddrive back into the original computer does the BIOS recognise the hard drive? What is the hard drive make and model?Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

It was running Windows XP sp2. I don't know what a none active driver is. I took the HD out so I could have the files (and I can access everything that way).

I don't know if the BIOS was regonized. There was once a message saying something an I/O issue (don't know what that means) but it didn't come up the last 2-3 reboots. All that came up was a small dialog box with a circles with a red x, and no other text.It was Windows XP SP2. And it was working beautifully until I updated.

I backed up all of my Word, Excel, PPT, etc files already. I do not have a CD for a reinstall, only one to run the diagnostic, which came back fine.
