System Restore
Hi, Recently my laptop (notebook computer) was attacked by a Trojan Virus. To solve this, I did a system restore to take my computer back to another point. After the restore was successful, all my word, excel file, internet bookmarks were lost. A system restore shouldn't affect these files as it says clearly, but it still did. Please any suggestions to help me? Btw, I have Windows 7 starter edition. Thank you.

Hello Mr. X, I went back to the point when the virus attacked my computer, even during that point in time I didn't see any of my files, just a blank screen and random popping windows that I saw during the time when my laptop was attacked. Even during the time when the virus attacked, it turned my desktop screen black and showed messages like you have a hard drive failure. It began performing a unsoliticited scan and afterwards asked me to fully purchase the software if I intend to fully restore my hard drive. Can I ever recover my lost files? Thanks.

You had to backup your documents before proceeding as there is documents are lost (new ones) after performing a system restore. Go to System Restore utility and check if you are able to restore your system to a restore point that dates of the attack by the trojan (Check if there is one that dates of today). If it does not exist, I don't see a way to restore them. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. Hi crics, When you set the system backup, which disk you choose to backup? Does it include your word files or internet bookmarkets location? Since you mentioned "I went back to the point when the virus attacked my computer, even during that point in time I didn't see any of my files", the files are lost when the system got attacked. Restore to a former time, you will lost some data if they're created later than that time point.
