Although it's certainly preferable to have a faster Internet connection, this won't affect your PC's performance. What do you mean by the term "freezing"? What exactly happens? Are there certain programs running before this event happens? Are there ever any error messages? What is the make and model of your PC?What is its malware status? What security programs do you run?Are there any errors in Event Viewer? See the helpful post by Jose for more info:http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpperformance/thread/f543f82f-fed4-43ff-ae25-a2c4e5948527Finally, a common troubleshooting technique is to configure a Clean Boot to see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then you can eventually determine the program that is causing the issue. Try this:To perform a diagnostic startup, follow these steps:Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then clickOK. On the General tab, click Diagnostic Startup, and then clickOK. Restart your computer. If the problem does not occur, use Selective startup mode to try to find the problem by turning individual services and startup programs on or off.(the above is from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560 )

I don't know what kind of Malware I have looked but don't know where to find it. My computer is a Dell Dimension E521 (is on modem). It is a desk top I have had it about 3 years. I have Norton Security Suite 4. I found while looking for Malware that I have Symantic Intellisent 2, version5,1,0,9. When I went to security I found out that my firewall is off, and Virus protector was not found. My computer use to be a Windows Vista but I had it switched over to a XP about a year ago. The computer freezes even if I try to load a page with nothing else running. I do gefragment and disc cleanup regulary. I also do computer check up regulary. I get a "Unresponsive Program" message alot. I will try the diagnostic startup and see what happens. Thank you I hope I supplied you with some information that you requested.

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer forErrors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48hours ago.You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaningof the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Descriptionare important.A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and doubleclick on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is abutton resembling two pages. Click the button and close EventViewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body ofthe message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting fromEvent Viewer. Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell
