You've posted in a forum for the Windows 7 operating system. Further questions about Windows XP should be posted in one of the Windows XP forums. But since you're here...With a used computer, the very first thing to ALWAYS do is a clean install. You have no way of knowing what problems you have inherited otherwise.http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html -Clean Install How-To http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Reinstalling_Windows -What you will need on-hand If you are unwilling to do this (not recommended), then:http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_change_owner.htm -Change the registered owner/companyMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

But since the sameanswer works for both versions of Windows, here it is:If I acquired a used computer, no matter who previously owned it, the first thing I would do with it would be to reinstall the operating system cleanly. You have no idea how the computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses andspyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do so either. But if you just want to change the "Registered to" name, you can do soby editing HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\RegisteredOwner with Regedit.Ken Blake
