System Imaging fails in Windows 7 - verification always finds errors in DVD after writing
Since I'm not finding anyone having this problem on my internet searches, I'm wondering if it's just my computer or if not many people are doing the system imaging yet in Windows 7. I'm on a Dell Vostro 1720 laptop with Windows 7 Pro.All my attempts at creating a system image to DVD have failed when the program (build into windows 7) verifies the write. I always get the error message that verification found errors on the DVD and it can't be used. All I seem to be making are "coasters" Gr-r-r! Does anyone have a solution for me??? ...please! The DVD drive works perfectly for creating anything else. It's just a problem with the system imaging software...

Hi,If as you say your DVD burner is ok, then the .ISO file was currupted during download.Try and download .ISO file again then try burning at x4.Slan go foill, Paul

...but creating a "system image" doesn't create an ISO file! It creates a file which is accessed from the Windows 7 REPAIR disk that you also create.

Hi,Sorry I assumed you talking about the W7 install DVD disc,What you are trying to do is a backup is that right ?You would be better off doing that to 2nd harddisk or external harddisk. You would use DVD discs for smaller backups. The system image would be a lot bigger then 3.4GB as it is taking an image of your entire harddisk.Slan go foill, Paul

Yes, backup is what I wanted to do and I did end up doing it to a spare hard drive I had on hand (just big enough to hold the system image backup). Thanks for your help.

Hi hdulak,Regret the inconvenience caused. Could you zip theetl files from <SystemDrive>\Windows\Logs\Windows backup and email them to sneham_at_microsoft_dot_com (Remove underscores and replace words with characters wherever applicable)? Also can you let me know what is the kind of media you are using for backup? Also, do you have the latest firmware for your DVD writer? Thanks,Sneha[MSFT]

For what it's worth, I just successfully created botha system image disc set and a system repair disc while I was at it. DVD-R media. So the program CAN work.-Noel

That's good to know! I'm trying to use HP DVD+R and they're NOT working! I wonder if that is the difference????? I don't have any DVD-R to try. I'm on a brand new Dell vostro 1720 laptop. What are you using? The built-in DVD writer is a Realtec.HD
