System Image Backup fails in Surface Pro Win 8.1 with an error

I'm trying to create a system image backup by using "System Image Backup" tool that comes with Windows 8.1 without any success. For this I went to "File History" tool and under this at the bottom-left hand side there is a link "System Image Backup". Then selected the drive and just clicked Next and Ok on the prompts.

I get the below error message around the last stage of the backup since the progress bar will be just around the finish line when the below error pops up saying that the backup wasn't successful:

ERROR: "There was a failure while compacting the virtual had disk on the backup location. (0x80780151) Additional Information: Incorrect function. (0x80070001)"

I'm using Verbatim 500GB portable hard drive. I have formatted it in NTFS file system as required by the backup tool. It has nothing in it so it has enough space.

Thanks
Jay

Hi,

Based on my research, I suggest you try to delete mounted volume reparse point.

Windows backup or restore errors 0x80070001, 0x81000037, or 0x80070003

Lets  have a try to check if the methods also apply to windows 8.1.

Meanwhile, we can use the Recimg.exe command-line tool to create a system image.

How to create a system image to refresh your Windows 8 PC

This article also applies to Windows 8.1.

Thanks for the reply Kelvin. I went through that first link and found that only one jumpshot listed but couldn't follow the steps to delete one.

Regarding recimg.exe it will just backup system image then I'll have to reinstall everything else right? As per the System Image Backup it should backup my applications as well so that when I do recovery from it I'll have everything back on? Latter is what I'm after.

Jay

EDIT: RESOLVED by turning off RPM and reformatting target drive as suggests in the other backup thread.

Sorry Ken it is TPM not RPM. This autocorrect changed it to RPM without my knowledge. You can access it by doing TPM.msc in 'Run' window. Below is the link where I got advised to do so. However, it only worked once. So, gudluck..
