System Center Endpoint Protection client install fails on Windows 2003 server [Error code:0x80070643]

We are rolling out System Center Endpoint Protection on our servers. Most installs have completed successfully, but we have a couple of Windows 2003 servers that fail with the following error message:

Cannot complete the System Center Endpoint Protection installation

Error code:0x80070643

EppSetup.log:

Operation failed: MorroBootstraper::CInstallFlow::InternalRun - GetClientInstallAction - Cannot complete the System Center Endpoint Protection installation. An error has prevented the System Center Endpoint Protection setup wizard from completing successfully. Please restart your computer and try again. Error code:0x80070643. Fatal error during installation.   [80070643]

Searching for this specific message and error code returns no results, so I am unsure where to start troubleshooting.

I have tried solutions for similar problems, restarting, starting in selective boot with no other services activated etc.

There is no other anti-virus on this server, but McAfee has previously been installed and is completely removed.

Hi,

I would start by verifying the the base filtering service is running I got the exact same error message when it wasn't running, here is a post describing the error and how to fix it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the base filtering service is available on the Windows 2003 platform, so I doubt that is the problem. We have other Windows 2003 servers that install the SCEP client just fine without any BFE services.

Hi,

Thank you for the post.

Please try register MSI installer or clean boot your system to install FEP client.

Registered MSI Installer following the steps below:
1.Run "cmd"--Browse to the "%systemroot%\system32" directory and execute: "msiexec /regserver"
2.Change directories to "%systemroot%\SysWow64" and execute: "msiexec /regserver"
3.Reboot the server

The current implementation is using a private executable.  I am working on getting a version without that dependency.

I am encountering that same error code when attempting the install on one of our workstations. Could you possibly email me the fix as well?

Hello,

The solution is probably the same as this thread. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmanagersecurity/thread/c8496ab6-d1d0-4462-a928-dad512b46c5b

remove your language version of the product, then install the ENGLISH version of the product and then install SCEP. That worked for me.

Best regards,

Panicz
