Sync center will not allow re-connection to network resource
Hello, I have been experiencing many problems with my 'Sync Center' in conjunction to another computers shared folders. The computer that i am trying to connect to is running the Mac OSX 10.5.7 OS and previously i had not had any problems with this before but i was syncing my music folder in-between the two computers by making the networked 'music' folder available offline. To do that i needed to manually browse to the computer to authenticate myself as a registerd user by in this case typing: \\Wyatt-Macbook Into windows explorer, where it then asks for a username and password. When i first start it, the sync works like a charm. Although as soon as i restart the computer, we find the problem. It seems that with the offline files mode enabled, the computer already thinks that it is connected to the laptop, at this point however, the computer that i am using to access these files is no longer authenticated and requires itself to re-connect to the laptop. I couldn't even access the laptop anymore! Also on top of that it wont sync because it says that im not connected to the laptop! I managed to restore the netowork after deleting all my offline files and breaking all sync partnerships; after trying to restart the offline files mode and restart, i encounter the problem again. I am hoping there is a soulution to this problem that would allow me to sync the files and maintain an open network after the restart. Like i said, i think it has something to do with the way windows authenticates over smb connections (windows file transfer protocall). Here are my specs on the computer having issues: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 6 GB Ram @ 800MHz 250GB HD Windows 7 Ultamite Release Canditate 64 bit OS Please help!!!

I think your issue has something to do with Windows 7's limited support for file shares that are hosted on something else then Windows.I first ran into this when adding folders to the Libraries. You can only add folders to the library that are indexed. Indexed folders are hosted locally or onremote systems that conform to the Windows IndexingProtocol. When you try to add a remote folder to the Libraries that is on a Windows system at a location that is not indexed you get an error message stating that the location that you are trying to add cannot be indexes. You can add the location to the index by adding the shared folder to the offline folders. This is where your issue fits in. If you are adding a shared folder from a system runnin OSX for offline availability, this system is not conforming to the Windows Indexing Protocol. Therefore Windows 7 cannot properly keep the index for that remote folder, which is causing the issues you see.I think you better start looking for an alternative to sync your files with the mac. Synctoy from Microsoft did this for me on XP.Ray
