Sync MyDocs with server
We are currently migrating staff from windows xp to windows 7 but have noticed an issue with synchronized files. First off we synch everyone's MyDocuments folder to the Z drive, server athena for us. Such that each user can access their folders this way: z:\firstname.lastname . However when a user on windows 7 views the Z drive they see every synchred MyDocuments folder with the same name. Example It should be: Z: First.Last John.Ramos Instead we get: Z: MyDocuments MyDocuments But that is just graphical, if you just try to UNC directly to the folder it works. Furthermore if you try to rename any of these, it gets really messed up. Finally whenever the staff member tries to open the mydocuments offline, it is blank. The folder is displayed as a blank icon with no name/extension and does not respond to right clicking. If I 'View offline files' while on the network, I can view all of the synched files, if I try to view them offline through the synch center I get nothing.

This behavior is by design. Please change the settings, redirect folders to a subfolder under z:\First.Last. There are more methods to resolve this issue. Please refer to: When you redirect the Documents folder on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based computer to a network share, the folder name unexpectedly changes back to Documents http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947222Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
