Surfing at walking pace
Since installing Security Essentials my web surfing has slowed to dial up speed, even tho I have broadband. Is this normal with Windows XP?As far as i know I have no other antivirus installed. I do have System Mechanic installed, but I don't think that is actively scanning. Is this just Security Essentials being over cautious? If so, i will have to abandon it.1 person needs an answerI do too

Installing security softwares really affects the performance of the computer since every activity inside the system is scanned before you can access it. If your internet connection slowed down, its probobly normal since when you request information from the internet for you to view on a web browser, every data sent to you is also being scanned. Try this, stop your anti-virus/security software and see if the the speed improves.

Yes, when I disable MSSE things go at normal quick speed. So I'm looking for a better alternative I guess. Zone Alarm was much faster.

I have figured out how to return things to normal speed. I have included my c drive in the excluded locations - everything is back to a usable speed. I just cannot understand those reviews which say that MSSE takes few resources and doesn't slow things down - it slows my system down to a crawl. OK now tho.

Some are needed to be configured manually on how they would function.
