Suddenly unable to create system images or backup. Error code: 0x80780119
I asked this on the Microsoft Answers forum but no one could help me there, so I'm hoping you guys/girls will be able to. I am running Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, if necessary (though i doubt it is) I can post my full system specs. I am currently having problems backing up my system or creating a system image. I was able to do both up until a couple months ago, after which my backups would say "your backup might not have completed correctly, please check your backup." I would like to emphasize that this problem suddenly presented itself, I didn't just try to backup for the first time and it failed, I suddenly became unable to backup. I know there are several topics with similar problems, but none of the answers to them apply to my current situation. My system reserved partition has over 50mb space. My drive is not dynamic (since I have been backing up to it up until this problem) The drive I am backing up to (1.5 TB) has enough space (1.2TB free) for my backup/system image (500 GB) I have tried registering the dll files via the commands in this topic http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7performance/thread/d7c4a94c-620b-4752-af60-4c65ad1ae334 I have tried setting the volume shadow copy service to automatically start. I have done a full format of a brand new drive (to backup to instead of the 1.5TB one) and it still failed. sfc /scannow returned no errors. I have used Error-Checking on my drive. I have talked to my college instructor, and he talked to some friends of his, and they seem to think the problem was caused by a windows update. (as windows updates were the only major changes during the time when it stopped working) I hope someone can figure out a reason other than windows update causing it, as I really don't want to have to uninstall updates one by one until it works. Thanks in advance for your help.

crease the usable size of the Volume Shadow copies. Also assign a letter to the system reserved partition and look that the partition is not full. Sorry, I seem to have forgotten to include that I did increase the max storage for VSS, and I was still getting that error message. I did say in my question that my system reserved partition has over 50mb space, and I have done that before, but I'm not a member of technet with 5 medals and who has answered 2334 questions, so you must have some knowledge that I don't about that. I'll assign it a letter now and see what happens. Well, I assigned it a letter and it went from 69 MB free to 69 MB free. You must be seeing something I'm not, so could you enlighten me as to what I should be looking for that would change from assigning it a drive letter?

I only googled for that error code and some users reported hat those 2 things fixed it. I don't use Windows Backup."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Check my HowTo: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=150221

I realise that those are the common fixes, and those were suggested plenty of times, but they don't apply to my current situation. Thanks for replying anyway though.

Hi, Have you tried to create the System Image to external drive or try it in Clean Mode for a test. This error message indicates that the drives do not have enough space to create the System Image. You may also refer the following link to reset the Back Up component. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/dc5450fe-f30e-4493-8d06-32a3cca8947a Hope this helps. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I have been trying to create it to an external drive this whole time, if by external drive you mean a drive other than the one I am backing up from. I hadn't tried doing it during a clean boot, so I did earlier, and funny story. In the clean boot, the backup page in control panel wouldn't even load. I would get to the page, and my only option would be to go back to control panel. That doesn't seem right to me for some reason, as I assume I should be able to use the control panel normally in a clean boot state.

Hi, OK, please try to reset the Back Up component for a test. The link you gave in your previous reply was a link to this page, could you provide the correct link?

Well I solved this problem myself. Apparently having too many language packs causes volume shadow copy to not work properly. (makes perfect sense!) So after removing some language packs, I was able to backup again.
