Suddenly can not access any network (LAN) locations
I am unable to access anything through a network share, even the files where are being shared from this computer. The only computer listed under "Network" is my own (which is not correct, there should be more). If I click that, it tells me... \\WINDOWS7COMPUTERNAME is not accessible. You might not have permission to access this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The Request is not supported. Up until now everything has been working fine. I can access what is being shared on this computer from two other computers (which also also access eachother). I can, or course, connect through the router (that links the network) to the internet, and my network printer (which connects directly to the router through WiFi) works fine as well. Edit: I should also include that if I run an FTP server on it, I can access it by typing FTP://OTHERCOMPUTERNETWORKNAME. Can anyone help me?

Hi Concerning Win 7. When configured on peer-to-peer Network, Win 7 has three types of Sharing configurations. Home Network = Works only between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration makes it very easy to Entry Level Users to start Network sharing. Work Network = Basically similar to the previous methods of sharing that let you control what, how, and to whom folders would be shared with. Public Sharing = Public Network (like Internet cafe) to reduce security risks. The Work Network is the one that most of us are going (and need) to use. Win 7 Work Network's Sharing settings are in principle similar to Vista's configuration, some menus locations in Win 7 might be in different place, and look a little different, but it should not be a problem to adapt. So, maybe this can Help. Make sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall On, Vista/XP Native Firewall should be Off, and the active Firewall has to adjusted to your Network IP numbers on what is some time called the Trusted Zone (consult your 3rd Party Firewall instructions. Hello. I'm the original poster, for some reason it wouldn't let me log in with an account I made before, but demanded I use my Windows Live account, for some reason (if you check you will see that the E-mail addresses are the same). Thank you for your replies, although the problem seems to be something specific with my version of windows 7, as the other two computers I used were Windows 7 Basic and Windows XP Pro (SP3). I am on Windows 7 Pro, as as I said it was working before (and, thus, properly set up). My network is what has previously been described as an "infrastructure" network, as opposed to peer to peer ad-hoc. It is set as a work network. Given that I am only having problems with one windows 7 computer (which refuses to access even itself) it does seem as though some firewall settings may be incorrect. However I have disabled the firewall for my private network. I am at a loss for what to check, as most of what I can find on file sharing handles this problem from the other end-- computers not being able to access the Windows 7 files, not the other way around. Interestingly, my other windows 7 computer will show up in the Network panel, but I can not access it. It can access shared files on this computer fine, as well as my XP box. Just to recap: I have an XP Pro box, a Windows 7 Pro laptop and a Windows 7 Basic laptop. 7 Pro can access nothing, not even itself. XP Pro and 7 Basic can access everything, even 7 Pro. It is confusing me because it is not the host computer blocking anything, it is the client computer which simply refuses to access anything. Is it possible I have some sort of malware (in this case, a virus, I suppose) that caused this?

Hi, This issue can occur by several factors, such as incorrect network settings, virus or corrupted driver. To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following steps. 1. Please write down the IP address of the Windows 7 Basic machine, and run a Ping test from the problematic machine to check the result. Can you ping it successfully or vice versa? If you can get response from the target machine, please type \\IP address of Windows 7 Basic machine in Search box from Windows 7 Professional machine and press Enter. Can you browser it? 2. Upgrade the NIC driver on the problematic machine to the latest one. 3. Assure the following services are started: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 4. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and access the network machine again. 5. Modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine. a. Click Start and open Control Panel. b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings". c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options: "Turn on Network Discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders", "Turn off password protected sharing" Hope this helps. (And now it's automatically logging me back into my first account...) 1. I am able to ping every network location by IP (and by "network name", or whatever it's called). I am not able to access it from it's IP in the windows file browser. 2. No upgrade for my card was available, but I reinstalled the driver from a download on the Toshiba (my manufacturer's) website. 3. I don't see any services with those names, nor do I see any services that belong to those functions listed. It is possible I missed the services in the list. One thing to note is that the netlogon service, when manually started, will immediately be stopped. I suspected a service problem at first, but don't know which to look for under windows 7. 4. I have yet to try this, but I am unsure if WLAN will work in safemode. I do, however, have an Ethernet port. However, since the computer refuses to access it's own local files as well (through a network path, of course; It works fine using a normal local path), I don't think it's an issue with real communication. 5. All of these options are set properly.

Hi, To verify the service, please perform the following steps. 1. Verify relevant services. a. Click "Start" menu and type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and press Enter. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. b. Right click the "Computer Browser" service and choose Properties. c. On General tab click Start. d. Choose Automatic next to Startup type. e. Click OK. f. Please repeat above services to start Server service and Workstation service. 2. Reset WinSock a. Click Start, click "All programs", and click "Accessories". b. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Please enter the following command, and press Enter. Netsh winsock reset d. A message stating "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog" will appear. Please restart the computer. If the issue persists, please capture the error message and upload it here for research.
