Sudden use of 50% of my c drive. From where? How to find out/fix it?
I shut down after Defragging and it said I had 57 GB free space left. I went away for the weekend, came home, turned it on and it now says I have no free space on my c drive at all. I deleted unused programs and got 2 gigs o most programs run, but I cannot run defrag or reset to an earlier date. What could have suddenly came in and used up 57 gigs of my 116 GB hard drive? I had downloaded that "paid for " "slow-pc fighter" the week before but it was only run once and worked fine for the entire week afterwards. Is there any F key I can use that will tell me where this 57 GB is being used or where it suddenly came from? Is my computer simply making a mistake? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm currently laid off for the winter, (construction) so really need my puter to be working and some free space to work with! Thanks for anyone's time & help.PS I recall there was an alert about "active x" problems last fall. But I thought microsoft had figured out a patch already and I have automatic security update running all the time. is this one of those situations where my puter is being used "as a robot" somewhere from outside and howwould I discover that? I have macafee firewall running, PCtools spyware doctor and the "slow -pc fighter", as well as registry optimizer all up & running. So I'd assumed I was pretty well protected. I am now running a deep scan on the pc tools, already ran registry optimizer and slow-pc-fighter. As soon as the deeo scan is done I plan to go get the MS free virus scans too. But this doesn't act like a virus because except for the space being mysteriously taken up by something, it runs fine.1 person needs an answerI do too
