Sudden Drop in Network Connectivity But Still Have Internet Connectivity
I almost sounds like an issue with your router. Just for the test of it, if you connect your work laptop with a cable instead of wireless, does it fix your problem? What I would do if I had the same setup: Make the Windows 2008 server a domain controller with DNS and DHCP Make sure the server has static IP with the router as its Default Gateway and DNS Setup the DHCP to give out the server as the DNS and router as the Default Gateway Disable DHCP on the router Make all desktops/laptops join the domain I am not quite sure if you need to enable a setting on the router, to forward DHCP requests from wireless to wired... Hope that helps.

I have had a new installation of Windows 7 Utlimate on my work laptop for little over 2 weeks. Everything has been working great and have been able to access servers within my home network using RDP. This morning when I go to start working and try to connect to a remove server in my network. I am unable to connect to the server or any other network resource within my home network. I do however have access to the internet. I went to several other computers and tried to ping my work laptop and had no success. Any ideas why my work laptop would suddenly stop having access to the network but still have internet connectivity? Thanks in advance for the help. Ben

Do you connect to your home network using a cable? If that's the case, there a good chance you can see the Internet over your wireless connection, but cannot see your home network, because your cable is not plugged in. Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply. I connect via wireless to the internet and the home network. UPDATE: Instead of connecting using computer names, I decided to connect to the server via IP address and was successful. I then went to the server and tried to ping my work laptop via IP address and was successful. On the server I am able to ping other servers / computers via computer name and IP address. Beginning today on my laptop, I am only able to ping / connect via IP address. Any ideas what would cause this behavior? Thanks

Have you changed anything on your network connection (manual IP address, dns server, etc)? Do you have Network Discovery turned ON? Do you have Password Protected Sharing set to OFF?

I have not modified any network connections. I also verified that Network Discovery is turned on and that File and Printer Sharing and Public Folder Sharing is turned on.

Trying to get a picture of your setup: You state you have a server - what kind of server is it (NT, 2003, 2008, etc)? Is your server acting as a domain controller? Does your server have the DNS service installed and running? Does your server have the DHCP service installed and running? How to you get your IP/DNS on your laptop (manually configured, DHCP from server, DHCP from Router)? Thanks
