Successful IP lease, but failed ping and comms
I am running a simple 2 PC network at home. Both PC's are running XP. I have successfully had this network running with Internet Connection Sharing for approximately 1 year. Due to performance issues I decide to format the host PC. No hardware change was made, but I did load updated drivers for all devices (including NIC - Intel Pro 100) on the formated PC. Since the reload I am unable to ping between the 2 PC's. The loop back Ping is working fine on both PC's. What is really baffling is the fact that by using ipconfig /all I can see that the client PC is successfully leasing a new IP address from the host, but still there is no communication and ping fails. I have repeatedly run the Network Setup Wizard on both machines using different computer names (and even changing the workgroup name) to force it to renew the connection. Every time I can see that the client is successfully obtaining a new IP lease from the host, but still communication and ping is unavailable. I use AVG free edition and Windows Firewall. I have also disabled Windows Firewall on both machines, but it made no difference. I have tried putting the client on a fixed IP (192.168.0.2), but this also failed to resolve the problem. I am at wits end, please assist.1 person got this answerI do too
