Student computer hiding objects with GPO
I am adding a new GPO to our domain for our Windows 7 computers and I am trying figure out what settings I "need" and "would like to have" for our student computers. So far there is not much I have to add in this GPO for our student computers so that they are locked down but I am stuck on one that I can't find. It is the network icon inside of Windows Explorer. I can't find the option to disallow access to this in GPO under user or computer settings? Any ideas? Can anyone else give any sugguestions about what they have added to lock down Windows 7 computers for students? Thanks, Jason

In Windows 7, related policies are under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Network Connections.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Arthur, The policies in that location do not explicitly apply to Vista or Windows 7. If I currently have all Network options blocked shouldn't I be looking for a policy that says something about Vista or Windows 7? This is what I current have in place that works for XP. With these settings I still can get into the Network option in Windows Explorer with Windows 7. Ability to change properties of an all user remote access connection Disabled Ability to delete all user remote access connections Disabled Ability to Enable/Disable a LAN connection Disabled Ability to rename all user remote access connections Disabled Ability to rename LAN connections Disabled Ability to rename LAN connections or remote access connections available to all users Disabled Enable Windows 2000 Network Connections settings for Administrators Enabled Prohibit access to properties of a LAN connection Enabled Prohibit access to properties of components of a LAN connection Enabled Prohibit access to properties of components of a remote access connection Enabled Prohibit access to the Advanced Settings item on the Advanced menu Enabled Prohibit access to the New Connection Wizard Enabled Prohibit access to the Remote Access Preferences item on the Advanced menu Enabled Prohibit adding and removing components for a LAN or remote access connection Enabled Prohibit changing properties of a private remote access connection Enabled Prohibit connecting and disconnecting a remote access connection Enabled Prohibit deletion of remote access connections Enabled Prohibit Enabling/Disabling components of a LAN connection Enabled Prohibit renaming private remote access connections Enabled Prohibit TCP/IP advanced configuration Enabled Thanks,

None of the policies can prohibit users to access it. However, they can deny users to make any changes on the connections.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I have found the fix if anyone is interested. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/39699-network-add-remove-navigation-pane.html I am thinking of deploying this via GP Preferences. Thanks, Jason
