Stuck in a loop of unsuccessful updates.
I'm running Vista Home Premium x64 SP2 and when I attempted to install the latest update, my computer has entered itself in a never ending loop of Configuring Updates: stage 3 of 3 0% and then it just restarts with nothing installed. I am going insane and any help is appreciated.

Hi, Could you tell us the name of the update? This issue may occur when a third-party application holds open a file or locks a file that the update installation program has to use. For example, a third-party antivirus or antispyware application may cause this problem. If you are running any third-party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (McAfee, Norton, etc.), I recommend temporarily disabling or shutting them down during the troubleshooting process. Please be sure to re-enable them once the process has completed. Or you can prepare clean boot to install the update. To place the computer in a clean boot state, follow the steps below: 1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. 2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. 3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. 4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. 5. Click OK. 6. When you are prompted, click Restart. 7. After the computer starts, start the installation and check whether the problem is resolved. Please check if you are able to install the update, also let us know as to what error message or error code you get during windows updates. Please disable the antivirus software as well. Regards, Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
