Streaming Video - Windows Media Player 12 not asking for Proxy Authentication Credentials
We are just rolling out Windows 7 and cannot get IE 8 / Windows Media Player 12 to prompt us for our proxy credentials in order to view streaming videos. For example the embedded video here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/getting-started It never loads in Windows 7, but pops up a proxy login box on Vista/IE8/WMP11 and plays fine. We can take the same laptop home and it will stream fine when not behind a proxy. Any ideas how to get authentication to work?

Hi, Firstly, may I know the following: 1. Where are the network media resources located, external or internal? 2. The operating system of the server which you are using as a media server. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

These are all external streaming videos, for example The Microsoft Windows 7 Getting Started Videos. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/getting-started Media player just stays at Ready. If you hit the play button, then right click on the video and go to error details, you get an error about accessing the file. In Vista on another machine at work, you get a proxy login box and the video plays after loggin in. If I take the laptop home and turn off proxy, it plays correctly in Windows 7.

Hi, Thank you for your update. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. adjsut Internet Explorer security settings: 1) In Internet Explorer 8, click Tools and the click Internet Options. 2) In the Internet Options window, switch to the Security tab, click Internet and click Custom Level. 3) In the new-opened window, under “User Authentication - Logon”, please select “prompt for user name and password” and click OK to apply this setting. 2. Go to Tools--> Internet Options--> Security--> Local intranet --> Sites--> Advanced, and add you proxy server (FQDN) in the Intranet zone. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Hi, I am having the exact same problem here, since upgrading the school to windows 7. When someone tries to stream media (i.e. An MP3 from a website) they never get the proxy credentials prompt as they used to in Vista. I tried the above 2 steps but that doesn't fix the problem, does anyone have something else I can try? Thanks.
