Strange problem: No internet when copying files from Ethernet drive - Vista
Hello, I have a very strange problem! I have an Arris CM450 cable modem obtained from my ISP. A Linksys WRT45GL Router and a LaCie 1TB NetworkSpace (Ethernet drive). I run a small home network (workgroup) with 5 computers. 1 DELL Desktop computer attached directly to the router via Ethernet cable (LAN) and 4 Acer Laptops that connect over WIFI (802.11g). 2 Acer laptops run Windows XP SP2 and the other 2 Acer laptops run Windows Vista Home Premium. Whenever I try to copy files off my Ethernet drive from my 2 Vista laptops, I lose internet connectivity! 3 LEDs start blinking on the modem. As soon as I am finished copying, the LEDs go back to the their normal state and I regain internet connectivity. This ONLY happens from the 2 Vista laptop and ONLY over WIFI. However, this issue DOES NOT occur when I plug in the 2 Vista laptops directly to the router via Ethernet cable (LAN). Furthermore, this issue DOES NOT occur when I copy the same files on my 2 XP laptops (over WIFI). I have exchanged both modem and router twice already. My ISP is unable to determine the cause. Thank you in advance! ABH83
