Strange network problem
I have a fresh installed laptop, HP Probook 4510s, Windows 7 preinstalled. I can reach all local servers at my workplace, however i dont have any internet access. I can ping all local servers, however i cant ping the default gateway. I've seen some posts about disabling the NIC and reenable it but it didnt work. I even reinstalled the computer to Windows XP, still that didnt work either. the gateway is on the same switch, if i connect another computer to the same cable i can ping the gateway and browse the internet. Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

I had the same problem with several machines and could not find a fix, so I just put in static ip and boom connected. Ran this way for a week or two and went back to dhcp and it was back working, so changed the rest of the machines and they are now working. It's been two weeks now with no problems.

Hi, I agree with Thedoc8 and you can try a static IP address for a test. 1. Assign a static IP Address to the problematic computer: 1) Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2) Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties". 3) Click to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties". 4) Please manually assign the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the DNS settings referring to the settings of the router or the good computer. 2. Temporarily turn off firewall and antivirus program on the machine. Thanks. Novak
