I am having the same issue.  I just tried to do the PC Refresh.  I'm still getting the bad length error.  Any other suggestions before i wipe the device.  The store works fine on my main PC.  It is just the surface that is giving me  a problem.

Hi.

Had the same problem just now after restoring Windows 8.1 from Windows 10 Technical Preview (store apps like Skype not working and 'Bad length' error when trying to sign in Windows Store).

Disconnecting the account (switching to local) and then connecting it with Microsoft account again solved it.

Having this issue too, after reverting back to Win 8.1 from Win 10 Tech Preview.

Can you explain the steps when you say "Disconnecting the account (switching to local)" ?

Thanks.

Answered myself: Go to Charms Bar, Settings, Change PC Settings, Accounts.

From there, you will see your account, and the option to disconnect. After that, reboot, repeat above, but choose connect to Microsoft Account. That fixed it for me.

Thanks.

Hello RiverPotter and Same here 224,

Have your try to disconnect the Microsoft account and reconnect again?

Please try to use other account to check if the issue still exists.
If the issue doesnt occur when you use other account, please take a look at the following article about fix user profile.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/fix-corrupted-user-profile#1TC=windows-7
This article is about Windows 7, and Windows 8 is similar.

Best regards,
