Storage Spaces - Cant Add Drive

Hi everyone. I'm having issues adding an additional drive to an existing Storage Space on my new Windows 8 setup. Its an external usb 3.0 hard drive, 2 tb western digital My Passport.

Ok, so anytime I go into Storage Spaces to add the drive to the pool, it gives me an error:

====================

Can't prepare drives
Close all applications that are accessing the drive, and then try again.

The system cannot find the drive specified (0x0000000F)

===================

I've searched everywhere and tried just about everything for a solution, but there isnt much out there in regard to this. =/

I also noticed that the drives details are always blank, however it shows up fine in My Computer as well as in my Computer Management setup.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

It seems that the device driver is not compatible with Windows 8 Storage Space feature. You may contact WD support for detail information.

I'm having the same issue. Windows 8 Storage Spaces simply doesn't appear to recognize these drives. I contacted Western Digitial and opened a case (Ref # : 022113-6654857). They said that it is supported for use with windows 8 and Windows 8 Storage Spaces. I even found the a press release claiming the same.

They said it is a Microsoft issue and I should contact them. I'm not sure what to do here. Being stuck between two vendors. Does Microsoft have any tool to test a drive to see if it's compatible? This is so frustrating.

Thank you.

To help others that may run across this, working with Western Digital we received the following response.

"Going further with the research we found the models that will actually work in Windows storage spaces are the models:

WDBHEZ5000ABK and these ones are only 500GBs.

We apologize for this inconvenience but we believe you will need to return the drives to the place of purchase."

This would be such bad work for the Windows team. How can Storage Spaces only support one drive from WD? What kind of partnership is that?
